Our Story
Empowering Africa Through Agriculture
Mafunzo Development Initiative (MDI) is a Ugandan social enterprise dedicated to improving food safety, food quality, and agricultural standards across the agricultural value chain. Founded in 2024, MDI was established to address the growing need for practical skills, technical support, and accessible knowledge that enable farmers, agribusinesses, food processors, and institutions to produce safe, high-quality food while remaining competitive in local, regional, and international markets.
The word "Mafunzo" is derived from Swahili and means "Training", reflecting our commitment to building knowledge, skills, and capacity among agricultural stakeholders. We believe that improving food safety and quality standards begins with empowering people with the right information, tools, and support.
Through training, advisory services, research, advocacy, and resource development, we work to create a food system that protects consumer health, enhances livelihoods, and strengthens market opportunities for agricultural producers across Uganda and East Africa.
We exist to bridge the gap between food production and food safety by ensuring that agricultural stakeholders have the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to meet evolving food safety and quality requirements.
